Region of Waterloo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1656 Ratify Contract (1)

Waterloo Region – An agreement between the Region of Waterloo and CUPE Local 1656, representing the Region of Waterloo’s outside workers has received ratification. 

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • 60 month collective agreement from January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2021
  • Annual increases of:
    • 1.5 per cent in 2017
    • 1.5 per cent in 2018
    • 1.6 per cent in 2019
    • 1.75 per cent in 2020
    • 2.0 per cent in 2021

 Current membership of CUPE Local 1656 includes 212 full-time and part-time employees. CUPE 1656 represents employees working in the areas of Transportation, Waste Management, Water Services, Fleet Services and Facilities Management.
