Region of Waterloo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1656 Ratify Contract
Waterloo Region – The agreement between the Region of Waterloo and CUPE Local 1656, representing the Region of Waterloo’s outside workers has received ratification. The total compensation cost of this four year agreement is 5.49 per cent.
The negotiated contract settlement between the Region of Waterloo and CUPE local 1656 will achieve the mutual goals of providing equitable and fair wages and working conditions, while maintaining and improving the quality and level of services.
Highlights of the agreement include:
- 48 month collective agreement from January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2016
- Annual increases of:
- 1.5 per cent in 2013
- 1.5 per cent in 2014
- 1.5 per cent in 2015
- 1.5 per cent in 2016
- Adjustments to benefits and premiums will result in efficiencies over the life of the agreement.
Current membership of CUPE Local 1656 includes 199 full-time and 12 part-time workers, employed in Airport Operations, Facilities and Fleet Management, Procurement and Supply Services, Transportation, Waste Management, Water Service and Waterloo Regional Housing maintenance.
