Region of Waterloo and CUPE 5191 (Paramedic Services) ratify contract

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has approved a Memorandum of Settlement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), on behalf of members of Local 5191. Local 5191 represents approximately 220 Paramedics and Fleet Support Personnel who provide emergency medical services in Waterloo Region.

Negotiations began in August 2016 and both parties signed the Memorandum of Settlement on August 3, 2017, renewing the agreement for CUPE Local 5191.

Highlights of the agreement include:

 

  • A four-year collective agreement from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2020
  • Adjustments to late call, scheduling, and meal break language
  • Minor changes to extended health care benefits
  • Wages:

o   1.75% - April 1, 2016
o   1.50% - April 1, 2017
o   1.50% - April 1, 2018
o   1.75% - April 1, 2019
o   A classification adjustment for Fleet Support Personnel

 

 The Region’s negotiated contract settlement with Paramedics (CUPE 5191) will achieve the mutual goals of providing fair and secure wages and working conditions for employees, while maintaining and improving the quality of Paramedic Services to the residents of Waterloo Region.
