Region of Waterloo and community partners launch new online service

Waterloo Region – “Just Google it” might be the first step for most internet users, but sometimes it’s difficult to find local service information. Now, a one-stop location, “isearchmycommunity” has launched in the Region.

The community information site is now available to any individual or organization wanting up-to-date information on a wide range of community services such as:

• child care

• recreation

• food banks

• seniors’ services

• health services

• immigration services

“We often hear from community residents who are having difficulty finding service information,” said Deb Bergey, Citizen Service at the Region. “isearchmycommunity will provide all that information in one location, anytime, and it will always be up-to-date.”

Funded by the Region of Waterloo, the new service contains updated information from community organizations and maintained by the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries. It will be used extensively by individuals, local municipalities, United Way organizations and community groups. It will also be a key piece of the 211 system, a phone and web based information service.

“We are working together to make it easy for all citizens and community agencies to openly access information they need,” said Ken Seiling, Regional Chair.

Community agencies will be able to access customized reports for their own planning purposes as well as update their own records. This consolidated site will reduce the number of locations agencies need to update their service information. “We’re looking forward to connecting with agencies and community groups across Waterloo Region to ensure their service information is up-to-date and available to all,” said Linda Terry, Executive Director for the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries.

A community advisory group has been established to ensure the information meets community needs.
