Region launches “WET Challenge” home audit program

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has launched a free home audit program to encourage water conservation. The program is called the “WET Challenge”, which relates to the goal of reducing household water use from an average 200 litres down to 165 litres per person per day.

“The ‘WET’ stands for water efficient technology, and the challenge is to find ways to save water if you’re using too much,” said Nancy Kodousek, Director of Water Services.

Homeowners in Waterloo Region are encouraged to do an on-line self-audit at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/wetchallenge and see how much water they are using in the house.  Once finished, the on-line tool estimates your water consumption and carbon footprint, and gives lots of information on how to save water and the environment.

If your household uses more than 240 litres per person per day of water, you qualify for a free home consultation.  If you qualify, call the Region of Waterloo to book a time for a home consultation.  They will help you find ways to save water.

“We are the largest municipality in Canada to rely so much on ground water for drinking,” said Ms. Kodousek.  “As our population grows, it becomes more important for us to conserve water for future generations.”
