Region launches new online permitting system
Waterloo Region – A new online permitting system launched today called the Road Construction and Incident Management System (RCIMS). The RCIMS is a web-based system that allows the public to complete and submit various permit applications through the Region’s website.
The new system will make it easier to apply for permits on Regional road allowances, such as:
- Road closure permits for special events
- Filming event permits
- Work permits to allow construction on Regional road allowances
- Oversized load permits
- Municipal consent permits to allow the installation of infrastructure in Regional road allowances.
The current practice of filling in hard copy applications and sending them in by mail, facsimile or in person has been replaced by the new RCIMS system which will allow members of the public and contractors to submit applications quickly and efficiently online. All approved road and lane closures will be mapped and tracked and visible online.
The sharing of this information will assist Regional and municipal staff in planning and coordinating lane and road closures and will give staff the data they need to avoid multiple and/or conflicting detours.
Other benefits of the system include:
- Improved customer service and simplification of the permitting process
- Coordination and management of planned and unplanned events
- Improved emergency vehicle response times
- Improved traffic flow
- Enhanced transit operation
