Region invites public to FREE forum featuring “SMART” expert in new mobility and strong communities - Susan Zielinski, Harvard Scholar
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is pleased to present Susan Zielinski, Harvard Scholar and leader in mobility innovation and Managing Director of SMART, June 12, 2012, at Galt Little Theatre (47 Water St. S., Cambridge) beginning at 6 p.m.
Zielinkski was honoured with a Harvard Graduate School of Design Loeb Fellowship in 2004 and is now Managing Director of SMART (Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility Research and Transformation) at the University of Michigan. Zielinski will share her experience on how to take transportation planning to the next level – looking for ways to unlock the community building potential of the “mobility grid” - to meet the challenges and capture the opportunities of global urbanization, technology and other trends. She will highlight how “new mobility” and innovative sustainable transportation systems can lead to many benefits, not only in terms of how people get around, but also by contributing to the economic vitality, environmental sustainability and cultural identity of a community.
This event kicks off the Region’s third “Exploring the Opportunities” forum, and will look at how investment in enhanced transit can strengthen our community along the corridor by:
- Connecting places of work, study and shopping;
- Supporting businesses and institutions;
- Enhancing the culture, arts and tourism experience; and
- Encouraging investment and economic growth.
The public are also invited to share their input and get more information at two Community Open Houses on:
- June 12 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Galt Little Theatre, 47 Water St. S., Cambridge (just before the speaker event); and
- June 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the project storefront at 220 King St. W. in Kitchener.
These events are all part of the Central Transit Corridor Community Building Strategy, which will help shape how our community will be planned and built around rapid transit.
