Region donates $25,000 for Fort McMurray relief
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo will contribute $ 25,000 towards disaster relief in Fort McMurray.
Funds will help the thousands of displaced residents of Fort McMurray following the devastating wild fires that began last week. Regional Council approved the donation at its Council meeting this evening.
“One cannot but be moved watching the impact of the wildfires on the community,” said Ken Seiling Regional Chair. “Council has responded to the current crisis in Fort McMurray and encourages members of the community to support relief efforts as best they can.”
The Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and the Canadian Red Cross are active in Fort McMurray. The Government of Canada has pledged to match all personal donations made in May to the Canadian Red Cross in response to the Fort McMurray fires.
