Region contacting residents blocked by Telus to book vaccine appointment
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force has been working with Telus to identify the mobile phone numbers of 2,900 of their subscribers who did not receive text notification that it was their turn to book an appointment to get the vaccine. This includes some subscribers of other telecommunications companies that use the Telus network.
On Friday, April 9, the Region of Waterloo engaged Telus and was notified that the telecommunications company had been blocking some of their subscribers who had pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine through the Region’s online booking. Once notified of the problem, the block was immediately removed by Telus. The Region of Waterloo has engaged other telecommunications companies to ensure there are no other issues.
Today, the Region of Waterloo is sending another text to every mobile phone number that was blocked by Telus with the information required to book an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine.
There will be appointments available in the coming days and weeks for anyone who has been impacted by this issue.
