Region Announces Locations of COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics
Waterloo Region – Today, the Region of Waterloo is announcing the locations for two large public health vaccination clinics where thousands of community members will be immunized as part of the Region’s 5 Clinic Types Strategy for COVID-19 vaccine rollout. As vaccine supply increases in the coming months, these locations will play a critical role in the Region’s target of delivering 10,000 or more doses each day.
The two large public health clinics will be located at:
- 435 The Boardwalk, Medical Centre 2, Waterloo
- RONA, 66 Pinebush Road, Cambridge
In early March, the clinic at The Boardwalk will open for adults 80 and older who have been recently added as a priority population to Phase One of the vaccine rollout. The RONA location in Cambridge will open after a number of modifications are made so the site can operate as a clinic. As vaccine supply stabilizes, additional small to mid-size clinics will open across the Region in primary care offices, pharmacies and other community locations.
Large public health clinics are one of five types of clinics that will be offered in Waterloo Region. Currently vaccines are being delivered at the Grand River Hospital site as well as via the mobile clinic.
“The Waterloo Vaccine Distribution Task Force is grateful to the partners and community groups supporting the vaccine rollout at various clinic locations across Waterloo Region,” said Shirley Hilton, Deputy Chief for Waterloo Region Police Service and head of the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force. “Residents of the community will be directed to the most appropriate and accessible clinic using a regional booking system through which they can pre-register according to their eligibility for the vaccine.”
Residents who receive two doses of the vaccine still need to continue to follow public health guidelines to protect themselves and others, and to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community. These guidelines include continuing to wear a mask and practicing physical distancing.
The Region is grateful for the generosity of SmartCentres, the landlord for RONA. SmartCentres will be offering free vacant space, where it is available, to all health authorities across Canada in order to help accelerate the vaccination process.
