Region announces details of ION construction
Waterloo Region – Today, the Region of Waterloo announced details of construction that will begin in 2014 for ION, the region’s rapid transit service.
ION construction will go ahead at 12 locations over the next six months – five along the ION adapted bus rapid transit (aBRT) corridor, and seven along the ION light rail transit (LRT) corridor. An overview of 2014 ION construction is outlined in the attached background document.
In making the announcement, the Region of Waterloo also launched a new website dedicated to ION construction. The website, www.rideION.ca, will feature the most up-to-date information for residents and businesses on ION construction, detours and overall progress.
During the coming weeks and months, ION staff will continue to meet with stakeholders, including residents, business owners and community groups, to keep them informed of construction and how road restrictions and/or road closures could impact them.
Once construction details are finalized, each resident and business owner within 100 metres of ION construction will receive a written notification before work begins. Road signage, including detour information and way-finding for businesses (how customers can access stores) will go up before construction commences.
Advertisements will be also placed in local newspapers and detailed information will be available at www.rideION.ca as well as the ION social media channels. Prior to work starting, a news release on the exact time and details of the detours will be issued. Residents can also sign-up for on-going construction updates through www.rideION.ca.
