Region and WRDSB agree to closure date for Elmira Children’s Centre

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo and the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) have agreed to an August 20th closure date for the Elmira Children’s Centre, located at Riverside Public School.

In accordance with its normal practice, the WRDSB is responsible for selecting child care providers to operate in its schools and will make a public announcement when a provider at Riverside is confirmed.

Staff at the Elmira Children’s Centre will be reaching out to support families through the closure of the centre.

The centre’s closure date follows the Region’s decision to focus on its role as service system manager of child care and early learning, with a more equitable investment across the child care system.

Of the 108 children currently attending the other four Regional children’s centres, families have secured placements for 96 children. Centre staff continue to support the families of the other 12 children in their search for alternative care.
