Ramped up vaccine rollout results in 40 per cent of Waterloo Region residents being fully vaccinated
Waterloo Region –Our community reached another important milestone in protecting each other from COVID-19. Today, more than 40 per cent of Waterloo Region adults are now fully vaccinated, with 192,817 people 18 years of age and older receiving two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Region also anticipates reaching 80 per cent of adults with at least one dose in the coming days.
“I’m so pleased to see our community respond in such a big way during these very important days in our fight against COVID-19,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “We’re making great progress in our vaccine rollout and continue to vaccinate as many people as we can as quickly as possible. The more our community continues to work together by rolling up their sleeves to get vaccinated and follow public health measures, the closer we are to cautiously moving forward in our recovery and allowing more businesses to safely reopen.”
In total, 592,661 doses have been administered to Waterloo Region residents, with thousands more being administered every day at public vaccination clinics, pharmacies and family practices.
“Vaccines are the most effective defense against COVID-19 and the Delta variant,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Waterloo. “The more residents who get vaccinated, the more we build a wall of protection to keep our community safe and healthy.”
