Rain barrel distribution returns this Saturday

Waterloo Region – Due to popular demand, the Region of Waterloo’s rain barrel distribution will be held on Saturday May 14, 2016 in the parking lot of Conestoga Mall, Fairview Park Mall and Cambridge Centre. Residents of the region can purchase one for $40, cash only on a first come, first served basis.

There is a limit of one per person per household and the event begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. or while supplies last.

“After 12 years of doing the distribution, we decided to end the program in 2012,” said Water Efficiency Manager Steve Gombos. “But in planning our future programs we heard the message that the community wanted to continue with the rain barrel program that supports water conservation.”

Since 2001, the Region has distributed 50,000 rain barrels through its annual subsidized one-day sale. They are saving an estimated 55 million litres of drinking water each year, which is enough to supply the needs of 250 households.
