Rail Safety Week: September 21 – 27
Waterloo Region – As part of Rail Safety Week, Grand River Transit (GRT) is launching “Look, Listen, Live,” a new ION safety campaign. The campaign will encourage passengers, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to continue to practice safe behavior near the ION light rail system.
Residents are reminded to follow signage, be mindful of their surroundings, stay off the tracks and to treat trains with the same caution as any vehicle.
“As we approach Rail Safety Week, we’re taking this opportunity to remind everybody in the community to continue to stay alert near the ION system,” said David Girodat, Manager of Light Rail Transit Operations. “ION light rail has been in service for just over one year and with the start of a new school year and more places reopening, it’s a timely opportunity to remind people of this important safety information.”
GRT has developed a series of messages to remind the community that ION safety is a shared responsibility. Safety messaging will be shared across social media platforms and on radio, and a new safety brochure includes tips for both transit riders as well as drivers, cyclists and other pedestrians. ION riders will also notice new safety posters at light rail stations over the course of the next 12 months.
