Public tours at the Waterloo landfill

Waterloo Region – Ever wonder what happens to the stuff you throw into the garbage, blue box and green bin? On Saturday, October 20, 2012 you have the opportunity to take a tour and find out. 

To celebrate Waste Reduction Week, the Region of Waterloo is offering free public tours on Saturday, October 20th at the Waterloo landfill site. Buses will be available to give residents a guided tour of the landfill operation and the Nyle Ludolph Materials Recycling Centre. Residents can take a closer look at garbage, green bin and recycling collection trucks, and landfill vehicles. Displays featuring the blue box, green bin and other waste diversion programs will also be available.

Bus tours will run every hour on the hour and are suitable for all ages. Donation of a non-perishable food item or cash donation for the Food Banks is appreciated.

When:    Saturday, October 20, 2012, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

             ext. 3810. If you require accessibility assistance to participate 
             in the landfill tours, please let us know at time of booking.

Where:  Enter at Gate 3, the Emergency Services Training and Research
            Complex, 1001 Erb Street West, Waterloo, ON.
