Potential for discoloured water in the City of Waterloo
Waterloo Region – During light rail transit (LRT) construction in the City of Waterloo, GrandLinq is required to temporarily close a section of watermain near the Caroline and Erb intersection.
No planned water interruptions will be necessary during this work; however, the water supply will be redirected through the local distribution system. As a result, this may cause changes in water flow direction, resulting in possible discolouration of the water.
GrandLinq has informed the Region that they plan to begin this work on Monday, June 6. Any temporary discolouration of the water may occur during the following 10-14 days. The area most likely to be affected is south of University Avenue, East of Westmount Road, North of the Kitchener/Waterloo border and West of the Conestoga Parkway.
The Region of Waterloo is committed to providing residents with high quality drinking water. It is recommended that residents observe the water before using it. The Region also recommends that residents do not drink the discoloured water.
Running the cold, unsoftened water tap nearest to the supply for 10 minutes will usually clear the discoloured water. If the discolouration persists, residents are asked to wait an hour and try running the taps again. Residents should also note that discoloured water can stain laundry.
For more information, residents can contact the Region of Waterloo’s Customer Care Centre at 519-575-4400 or the City of Waterloo’s Water Services Division at 519-8886-2310, ext. 30239, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. More information about discoloured water can be found at www.waterloo.ca/water.
