Pfizer bivalent booster doses available starting October 17 for anyone 12+ in Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region – Starting Monday, October 17 anyone 12 years of age and older who has completed their primary series of COVID-19 vaccinations is now eligible for a bivalent booster dose at a regional vaccination clinic, or at a participating pharmacy or doctor’s office across Waterloo Region.

The Pfizer COVID-19 bivalent vaccine is recommended for individuals 12+ as a booster dose at six months since the previous dose (or at least three months with informed consent). Our clinics will also continue to offer the bivalent Moderna booster. A booster dose will provide added protection against COVID-19 this fall and winter when the transmission of COVID-19 is expected to increase. Bivalent vaccines have been shown to trigger a strong immune response against the original Omicron virus strain and its subvariants.

More information about recommended intervals following COVID-19 infection is available at: COVID‑19 vaccines | ontario.ca.

The Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic at 66 Pinebush Road is exclusively providing bivalent booster doses. Other regional clinics continue to offer primary series COVID-19 vaccinations in addition to booster doses.

Both scheduled appointments and walk-in services are available at regional clinics, as capacity allows. Appointments can be booked using the province’s online booking system.

Clinic hours and other opportunities to get the bivalent booster vaccine will be posted on the Region’s website: Get a Vaccine – Region of Waterloo.
