Notice of Study Commencement

Lancaster Street (Regional Road 29) Improvements

Victoria Street to Bridgeport Road

City of Kitchener

Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, Schedule ‘C’

The Study

The Regional Municipality of Waterloo is undertaking a Schedule ‘C’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) and Preliminary Design Study for improvements to the Lancaster Street (Regional Road 29) corridor from Victoria Street to Bridgeport Road in the City of Kitchener. The age and condition of the pavement structure of the road will require that reconstruction be undertaken within the next five years. Improvements being considered include the construction of active transportation facilities, watermain, sanitary and storm sewer replacement, intersection improvements and the potential need for a grade separation at the railway crossing between Wellington Street and Victoria Street.

The study is subject to the requirements of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for Schedule C type projects. The Class EA planning process will consider the potential social, economical and environmental impacts of any improvements being considered on the study corridor. Measures will be implemented to mitigate adverse impacts to the greatest extent possible.

Public and Stakeholder Comments

During the planning of this project, members of the public, property owners and other stakeholders will have opportunities to review study findings and provide input on the improvements being considered. All concerns will be documented and assessed. A Public Consultation Centre will be scheduled later this year to solicit input from potentially impacted parties regarding the initial stages of the study.

Anyone wishing to provide suggestions or comments about this study at this time should do so, preferably in writing, by contacting the Region’s Project Manager. All comments provided during the preparation of this study will become part of the public record.
