No Household Hazardous Waste events in 2013
Waterloo Region – There will be no Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event days in 2013. After careful consideration as part of the 2013 budget process, Regional Council approved the recommendation to encourage residents to use the province’s free Orange Drop program, or the permanent Region of Waterloo sites to dispose of HHW.
Some HHW event days were scheduled before the budget was final, and were advertised in the township collection calendars and the tri-city guide for 2013. The following events will not be held:
March 23 Ayr News Parking Lot
April 13 Cambridge Waste Management Site
April 27 Kitchener Memorial Auditorium
May 4 New Hamburg Fairgrounds
June 1 Cambridge Waste Management Site
July 6 Wellesley Township Yards
August 10 Cambridge Waste Management Site
August 24 Ayr News Parking Lot
September 21 Cambridge Waste Management Site
October 19 St. Jacobs Arena
November 2 Kitchener Memorial Auditorium
Hazardous materials such as cleaners, paints, batteries and lawn or pool chemicals should be handled, stored and disposed of safely. These materials should not be put in the garbage. Options for safe, free disposal for HHW include:
• Ontario Orange Drop program: enter your postal code at www.makethedrop.ca to find a free drop-off site near you.
• Waterloo HHW Depot, 925 Erb Street West, Gate 2, Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• Cambridge waste management site (201 Savage Drive) Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (paint and motor oil only).
