New web map makes it easier to identify water outages in your area
The City of Cambridge has launched an interactive, user-friendly web map that identifies areas of the City with planned or emergency water outages. The map allows customers to search for an address, zoom or pan to an area to see if there are water outages affecting their property – similar to maps offered by hydro utility service providers.
“This is just one example of how we are continuing to deliver excellent customer service to residents of Cambridge,” said Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry. “I am pleased that we can offer a user-friendly digital tool that can help make a difference in people’s everyday lives.”
Live updates will be posted on the map at www.cambridge.ca/nowater when areas become affected. Some reasons for water outages include emergency watermain breaks, planned repairs, planned outages for capital reconstruction projects, test isolations, and more.
Using the map, City staff will be able to notify water customers more quickly of timelines for repairs and what to expect when water service is restored; for instance, how to flush discoloured water. A red outline on the map will identify affected customers. If no red outlines are visible, there should be no water service interruptions.
City customer service staff will also be able to help customers calling about water outages by consulting the map, thus reducing the need to dispatch staff to investigate and providing quicker responses. The City will continue to provide door-to-door and standardized notification letters for both planned and emergency work.
The map is available at www.cambridge.ca/nowater.
