NBA guard Jamal Murray reaches out to children and youth in Waterloo Region with help from Staples Canada and Microsoft
Waterloo Region –This Saturday, September 3rd, 21-year-old NBA player Jamal Murray from Kitchener will visit a neighborhood in Waterloo that was impacted by tragedy last month.
The 21 year old NBA player will visit the Waterloo Region Housing community on 31 Amos Avenue to have lunch with 90 children and youth; kids will also receive school bags filled with supplies donated by Microsoft and Staples.
“Getting the chance to meet a professional basketball player who grew up here can provide inspiration to children and youth as they prepare for their return to school,” said Waterloo Region Housing Manager Mina Fayez-Bahgat.
“I grew up not far from here and when I heard the news I immediately wanted to see how I can make a difference and lift the morale in the community,” Jamal Murray Denver Nuggets.
“Every student should have the tools they need to succeed in school and we’re proud to be a part of this great initiative alongside Jamal and Microsoft,” said Jot Toor, VP of Divisional Merchandising at Staples Canada.

Murray grew up in Kitchener and attended Grand River Collegiate before moving away to pursue his basketball career. He was the seventh pick in the first round of the NBA draft this year and signed with the Denver Nuggets over the summer.
