National Housing Day: Realizing New Opportunities
Waterloo Region – Plans for the Region of Waterloo’s 13th National Housing Day celebrations are set. Each year, the event highlights the importance of affordable community housing initiatives and achievements, while acknowledging the dedication and commitment of its housing partners.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the great work in housing happening in our community, and a chance for us to celebrate the tireless efforts of our housing partners,” said Deb Schlichter, Region of Waterloo’s Director of Housing Services.
For this year’s theme: ‘Realizing Opportunities for Affordable Housing,’ a keynote panel will explore opportunities in affordable housing, new development, and implications of the Region’s 2017 ION rapid transit system.
Regional Council, MP and MPP representatives, and other prominent guests will bring greetings. Presentation of the Housing Coalition and Regional Special Recognition awards will follow.
A reception with refreshments will take place after the formal celebrations, where Homes for Hope pins from the Homelessness and Housing Umbrella Group will be available for purchase.
National Housing Day is sponsored by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Region of Waterloo.
