National Housing Day celebrates community contributions to housing
Waterloo Region – On November 16, the Region and its community partners will mark National Housing Day and celebrate the work being done to help find homes for all.
“As we strive to end homelessness by 2025 and respond to a growing demand for affordable housing, it is important to recognize those who give their time and expertise to making an impact,” said Deb Schlichter, Director of Housing Services. “The community contribution makes the difference.”
The Homelessness and Housing Umbrella Group (HHUG) will hand out five awards this year, including a new leadership award to recognize a tenant or member who helped improve the lives of people in their community, such as reducing social isolation.
“We want to shine a light on the positive contributions tenants are making to their communities,” said Schlichter. “Everyone wants to feel valued and able to contribute; this leads to a better life for those being helped and those who are helping.”
