Mobile vaccination bus and more drive-thru clinics will make it easier to get the COVID-19 vaccine

Waterloo Region – This week, the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force is continuing to work with partners and community groups to provide even more innovative opportunities for residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine. A new mobile vaccination bus will be bringing the vaccine to residents who have been unable to attend a public vaccination clinic, doctor’s office or local pharmacy for a first or second dose of the vaccine.

The mobile vaccination bus will be operating in partnership with community groups and leaders, as well as Grand River Transit, to bring vaccines to under-served areas in priority neighbourhoods. Locations may include community centres, housing complexes including co-locating with other existing community services (e.g., food distribution programs) across Waterloo Region. No appointments will be required and up to six people can be vaccinated on the bus at one time.

The mobile vaccination bus will be in operation this Wednesday through Saturday and will be administering the Pfizer vaccine. The hours of operation will vary depending on the location being served.

“We continue to make new connections with community leaders to understand the unique needs of our community,” said Fauzia Baig, Equity and Anti-Racism Advisor for the Region of Waterloo. “Since January, the Community Engagement working group has been providing input on the vaccine rollout and making recommendations to ensure our vaccination clinics meet the diverse needs of the community. The mobile vaccination bus is one way we are working to reduce barriers that many residents experience in accessing the vaccine.”

Due to the success of the first drive-thru vaccination clinic at Bingemans Conference Centre, it will be open again this week for those who find it easier to get the vaccine in their vehicle. Appointments are required for second doses; however, walk-ins will be accepted for first doses. The drive-thru vaccination clinic will be administering the Pfizer vaccine this coming Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5-9 p.m.

There are many opportunities and appointments available this week for residents of Waterloo Region who still need to get a first or second of the vaccine. Anyone who has a second dose later this summer is encouraged to move up their appointment so they are fully protected from COVID-19 and the Delta variant as soon as possible.
