Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs will help eligible residents with accessing benefits

Whitby, Ontario – Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs will be available across Durham Region this April and May to support residents living with low income.

What: Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs can help eligible residents to:

  • Access Social Insurance Numbers (SINs), Birth Certificates and other forms of identification (ID). Service Canada will be issuing SINs on site, provided residents bring two valid identity documents. Service Ontario will share about provincial ID.
  • Open a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) and apply for the Canada Learning Bond benefit from the Government of Canada. Eligible families can get up to $2,000 for each child deposited directly into a RESP for free to save for post-secondary education. Bring SINs for both the parent/caregiver and child to open a RESP; other ID may be required.
  • Sign up for the new Canadian Dental Care Plan, which helps cover a range of dental care costs for eligible residents, starting with seniors. Service Canada can sign up eligible seniors for this new plan, provided they bring the letter they would have received in the mail from the Government of Canada.
  • Learn about income-boosting benefits. Canada Revenue Agency representatives will be on site to provide support and information.
  • Get free help with tax filing at select Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs (Scugog Memorial Public Library on April 22; Oshawa Public Libraries – McLaughlin Branch on April 25; Uxbridge Public Library on May 10). Tax filing helps residents living with low income to access benefits; there are more than 40 benefits in Ontario that can help boost incomes.
