Mobile clinics rescheduled to accommodate delay in shipment
Waterloo Region – The Vaccine Distribution Task Force has been notified of a delay in the shipment of the Pfizer vaccine by one day. Mobile clinics were scheduled to provide second doses to residents in long-term care and retirement homes (LTC/RH) today and those clinics will be rescheduled to Thursday and Friday. All LTC/RH residents impacted by this delay will still receive their second dose within the recommended interval of 21-27 days. The Grand River Hospital clinics will still go forward as scheduled to ensure those being vaccinated are within the accepted interval of 35 days.
Shirley Hilton, Deputy Chief for the Waterloo Regional Police Service and head of the Region of Waterloo COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force acknowledged, “Although we have had to pause and redirect our clinics a few times in the past month in order to address fluctuations in supply, it is important to note that we are still providing the vaccine within the acceptable intervals for residents of long-term care and retirement homes. This is a critical step in protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Members of the public are asked to continue following public health guidelines to help reduce the risk of the virus spreading in the community. More information on how you can protect yourself and others can be found on the Region of Waterloo Public Health website.
More information and regular updates on the work of the taskforce are available on the Region of Waterloo’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Taskforce Webpage.
