Media Release - SUNRISE LICENCES SUSPENDED
SUNRISE LICENCES SUSPENDED
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Toronto, ON, August 21, 2008). An investigation into the Sunrise Propane explosion conducted by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is ongoing. Technical assistance is being provided by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). As a result of the information available, TSSA has served Sunrise Propane with a formal Notice of the Director’s Proposal to revoke the licences to operate a propane filling station and has immediately suspended the operations of Sunrise Propane at three specific sites: 54 Murray Road, Toronto, Ontario, 1201 Dundas Street East, Toronto, Ontario and 3171 Derry Road East, Mississauga, Ontario. This action results in the immediate shutdown of the propane filling activities at the two remaining sites.
“This decision was based on a thorough review of the information currently available and the immediate nature of the potential hazards associated with operations at those particular sites,” says John Marshall, Statutory Director of TSSA’s Fuels Safety Program, “and is consistent with TSSA’s full commitment to protecting public safety in the Province of Ontario.”
A copy of the Notice of Proposal that provides the reasons for and particulars of the action regarding the three named sites can be accessed through TSSA’s website, www.tssa.org.
