Media Advisory - Regional Councillors Roll Up Their Sleeves to Do Their Part to Protect the Community
Waterloo Regional Councillors are rolling up their sleeves to kick off Public Health’s annual immunization campaign. On Tuesday, October 22nd, Region of Waterloo Public Health staff will be on hand to provide the flu shot for Regional Councillors, and more importantly, to highlight the need for everyone over six months old, to get immunized.
"Getting the flu shot is the best way to protect loved ones against the influenza virus," said Dr. Liana Nolan, Medical Officer of Health, “especially those under the age of five, newborns, or seniors who are most at risk of complications if they get influenza.”
Influenza is a serious disease. It is estimated that up to 20,000 hospitalizations related to influenza occur annually, and another 4,000 Canadians die from influenza and its complications. Getting the getting the flu shot is the single best defense against influenza--and it helps to protect those you care about.
Regional Councillors will get their flu shots before the council meeting.
