Local organizations looking to celebrate Canada 150 invited to apply for funding

Cambridge, Ontario. April 7, 2017… Through a donation of $25,000, the City of Cambridge has partnered with the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF) to provide funding for local projects celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary. A total of $45,000 is available to local organizations through this small grants program.

The funding comes through the Community Foundations of Canada’s Community Fund for Canada’s 150th that will support many different community initiatives this year. Local registered charities, low-cost housing corporations, neighbourhood associations, and registered amateur athletic organizations are invited to apply.

“This is an exciting year for all Canadians as we celebrate our 150th birthday. The City is proud to contribute funds that will help local organizations participate in this important occasion in our history as a nation,” remarks Mayor Doug Craig. “This funding makes it possible for groups in our community, both large and small, to initiate projects that celebrate our shared history and inspire a sense of community spirit.”

The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th is a nationwide initiative. Eligible projects must be run by Cambridge organizations and are expected to align with the fund’s goal of supporting projects that inspire and encourage Canadians to get involved and connect in celebration of Canada’s 150th.

“We are delighted to partner with the City of Cambridge and leverage our relationship with Community Foundations of Canada to provide more funding for Canada 150 projects in Cambridge,” says CNDCF Executive Director Lisa Short. “The collaboration will allow local organizations to leave a lasting legacy now and for future generations.”

Local organizations wishing to apply for the grant can do so through the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation website. Grant amounts range from $100 to $15,000 and are determined on an individual project basis. Organizations are required to match the value of the grant requested, either through in-kind or financial contributions. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2017.
