Local Medical Officer of Health gets first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine

Waterloo Region – Following the Province’s announcement that adults 40+ are eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Region of Waterloo’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang received her first dose of the vaccine at her neighbourhood pharmacy and encourages all eligible residents to book an appointment. The AstraZeneca vaccine is available at participating pharmacies and select primary care offices in Waterloo Region

“I’ve heard from so many people who are waiting for their turn to get the vaccine, including many individuals who do essential work and others who want to protect their family members,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Waterloo. “If you’re 40 or older, I strongly encourage you to book an appointment to get the AstraZeneca vaccine. While we are in the midst of a very serious third wave with profound impacts on our community and our health care system at risk, we are fortunate to have a good supply of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the moment and the opportunity to vaccinate even more residents who are now eligible to get it.”

Residents can find a participating pharmacy to book an appointment on the Ontario government’s website: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations.  

This week, more primary care offices began offering the AstraZeneca vaccine. Patients of the following practices who are eligible for the vaccine need to book their appointment directly with their primary care provider. Check the Region of Waterloo’s website for regular updates to the list below:
