Labour disruption over: Agreement ratified between City and outside workers

Cambridge, Ont., February 8, 2017 – The agreement between the City of Cambridge and CUPE Local 32 has officially been ratified. Both the Union and City Council have voted in support. As a result, the labour disruption is officially over and full City services will be restored on Thursday.

“Council unanimously voted to ratify the agreement,” said Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig. “We are looking forward to having staff back to offer the important services they deliver in our community.  It was a challenging time, but we appreciate how patient our residents have been.”

The agreement includes meeting a number of issues raised during the negotiations to bridge the gap in wage disparity for the Union:

  • an immediate market wage adjustment in advance of a formal market assessment for all positions
  • Cost of Living Allocation each year during the contract (2017-2020)
  • long-term market and internal equity through the implementation of a joint job evaluation market assessment program
  • lieu time agreement

The City also wants to reassure the public that we will reconcile with anyone who paid for services that were cancelled during the labour disruption. City staff is reaching out to these customers to make arrangements.
