Labour disruption over: Agreement ratified between City and inside workers
Cambridge, Ont., February23, 2017 – The agreement between the City of Cambridge and CUPE Local 1882 has officially been ratified by both City Council and the Union. As a result, the labour disruption is officially over and full City services will be restored on Friday.
“Council’s support for ratification was unanimous,” said Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig. “We are thankful that residents have been so cooperative and patient during this time. They, along with our staff, make this city great. We are looking forward to providing full services again and moving forward together.”
The agreement includes meeting a number of issues raised during the negotiations:
- Red circling (freezing) of grandparented wages starting the first day of ratification
- Individuals with grandparented wages will also receive a 1% lump sum payment the first pay in December from 2017-2019 based on the maximum salary level identified by their position’s grade.
- Cost of Living Allocation, for non-red circled staff only, each year during the contract (2016-2019)
- 1.7% retroactive for 2016
- 2% each year for 2017-2019
- General increase to benefits within the mandate (for example, pregnancy/parental leave top up)
- Vacation entitlement improvement for new hires
