King and Erb Streets reconstruction road closure begins on approximately July 24

Waterloo Region - Work on King Street streetscaping in Waterloo is progressing, and Stage 2 of the project is expected to start on or around July 24.

This stage of the project will involve the closure of King Street from Erb Street to the ION tracks; and Erb Street from Albert Street to King Street to vehicular traffic starting on or around July 24th for approximately 10 weeks.

Please note that:

  • Entrance and exit to Waterloo Town Square north parking lot will be maintained. One entrance/exit from Erb Street, either at Angie’s or the Atrium, will be available at all times. This entrance/exit will alternate as the work progresses and two-way access to the north parking lot is also available off Caroline Street.

  • The temporary two-way detour currently on Bridgeport Road between Regina Street and King Street will be extended to Albert Street for this stage of the project to provide an alternate route for northbound traffic. This detour will be in-place until the King-Erb intersection has been re-opened.

  • One lane of traffic will always be maintained on Erb Street to Albert Street to allow vehicles to access Albert Street and proceed north to Bridgeport Road.

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained to businesses at all times except when short-term closures are required during non-peak times of the day for sidewalk work across building entrances.

Please see the map above of the detours for motorists to get around the work area. Detour signs will be posted for motorists during Stage 2 work.

Detour description
:

  • Motorists heading east on Erb Street can use Albert Street to travel north, or Caroline to William Streets to King Street to travel south.

  • Regina Street can be used to travel north or south as an alternate to King Street. (This is the same detour that has been in-place for Stage 1 of the project.)
