Karen Redman elected new Regional Chair

 

Waterloo Region – Karen Redman has been elected Chair of the Region of Waterloo.

Redman will succeed Ken Seiling who has held the Chair’s position for 33 years when the new term starts on December 1, 2018.

Redman announced her candidacy in May of this year while serving as a Waterloo Region Councillor representing Kitchener. A lifelong resident of Kitchener, Karen has extensive experience in the political world. She has served her community in multiple capacities for 20 years at both the municipal and federal level. Karen was elected Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre in 1997 and re-elected in 2000, 2004 and 2006. She was most recently the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region.

New Regional Chair Redman will lead a Regional Council composed of eight directly elected Regional Councillors and Mayors of the seven local municipalities: the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo and the townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich.
