ION light rail wins gold award for Service Delivery

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is pleased to announce that ION light rail has been selected as the winner of the Gold Award for Service Delivery by the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships for 2020.

The Service Delivery award is presented annually to showcase Canadian excellence and innovation in project financing, service delivery, infrastructure investment and/or generation of economic benefit, which result in enhanced quality of public services and facilities.

“This award is a testament to the strong relationship the Region has developed with our private partner GrandLinq and our operator of light, rail Keolis,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “Our ION light rail service is now a part of the fabric of Waterloo Region and it will help shape our community for generations to come with a gold standard service.” 

"We are very proud to have been the Region's partner for the construction phase of ION Stage 1 Light Rail Project and, as the Operations and Maintenance delivery partner,” said Michael O’Neil General Manager GrandLinq GP. “We look forward to participating in the ongoing success of the system." 

The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) is a national not-for-profit, non-partisan, organization with broad representation from across the public and private sectors. The Council is a proponent of evidence-based public policy in support of P3s, facilitates the adoption of international best practices, and educates stakeholders and the community on the economic and social benefits of public-private partnerships.
