Intersection of Weber and Victoria Streets to be closed for up to ten weeks

Waterloo Region – The Weber Street reconstruction and widening project from College Street in Kitchener to Union Street in Waterloo is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Construction is approaching a critical phase in the project. The intersection of Weber Street and Victoria Street will be reconstructed and lowered to suit the new alignment and elevation of Weber Street under the railway bridge north of Victoria Street.

In order to safely complete this part of the project and to maintain the current construction schedule, the intersection will need to be closed to vehicular traffic for a period of up to ten weeks.

Beginning on July 7, until September 12, the intersection of Victoria Street and Weber Street will be closed. The intersection will be re-opened to Victoria Street traffic on August 15, however Weber Street from Victoria Street to Wellington Street will remain closed until September 12.

Region of Waterloo and City of Kitchener staff have jointly determined a detour route around the intersection.  The detour will consist of Duke Street, Wellington Street, Lancaster Street and Water Street. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to use this detour route.

Residents and business owners potentially impacted by the closure will be notified in writing. Advertisements in local newspapers will include detour maps. Appropriate detour signage on Victoria and Weber Streets will be posted well in advance for those who typically use this intersection.
