Interim City Manager announced

Cambridge, Ontario. Jan. 23, 2019...  Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry announced today the appointment of Jeff Willmer as the Interim City Manager, effective March 11, 2019.

Mr. Willmer, former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the City of Kitchener, is a strong municipal leader with a solid understanding of both the opportunities and challenges in Cambridge.

As Interim City Manager, he will work under a short-term contract with the City during which he will also lead the recruitment process for a permanent City Manager for the organization.

“We are fortunate that Jeff will be joining us at the City of Cambridge,” said Mayor McGarry. “He knows our Region, he understands municipal government, and I am confident that his experience and steady hand will ensure a successful transition to a new City Manager.”

Mr. Willmer, who retired in 2017 from the City of Kitchener, played an active role on significant regional-based projects, such as the formation of the Waterloo Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). He began his career as a city planner in 1989 where he worked on official plan policies and zoning bylaws.

“I am honoured to take on this interim role,” said Mr. Willmer. “I have had the privilege of working on various initiatives with staff at the City of Cambridge throughout the years and it is a very strong team. I look forward to working with everyone.”

Last month, current City Manager Gary Dyke announced he would be leaving the City for an opportunity with the City of Kingston. At a City Council meeting last evening, Mayor McGarry thanked Mr. Dyke for his contribution and for implementing many progressive projects and best practices during his time at the City.
