If you are pregnant you are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine
Waterloo Region – The Province has announced that if you are pregnant, you are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine as pregnant individuals are at increased risk of severe illness and hospitalization. This group has been added to Phase 2 of the vaccine rollout under highest-risk health conditions.
“It is important to prioritize individuals who are pregnant for the COVD-19 vaccine and for anyone who is pregnant to have the opportunity to receive the vaccine as soon as possible,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Waterloo.
“I encourage those who are pregnant to pre-register for the vaccine right away and if they have concerns about the vaccine and pregnancy to speak with their health care provider.”
Members of the public who pre-register for an appointment in Waterloo Region are contacted to book an appointment in a priority sequence so anyone who is pregnant can expect to be contacted within the next few weeks, subject to the availability of vaccine.
The fastest way to pre-register for the vaccine is on the Region of Waterloo website: COVID-19 Vaccination Pre-registration.
The quickest way to get an appointment is to provide an email or text (mobile phone number) when pre-registering for the vaccine.
Anyone who is pregnant and is 40+, or is turning 40 in 2021, can also receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at some primary care offices and select pharmacies across Waterloo Region. Appointments are required. For more information about where to book an appointment to get the AstraZeneca vaccine, visit these websites:
