Iconic corner in downtown Galt set to get a welcome facelift

After twenty years at their Cambridge location, Milestone Integrated Marketing has announced the agency will be relocating to downtown Galt. The company’s head office will move to the historic building at the northwest corner of Main and Ainslie Streets following completion of substantial renovations to the building’s interior and façade. The move marks an exciting moment for the creative agency, which delivers integrated marketing services to a range of high-profile clients, including DuPont Pioneer, 3M, SAP, Maple Leaf Foods, Christie Digital,
Jackson Triggs and Unitron. While steadily increasing staff numbers have necessitated the move, it’s also a chance for Milestone to grow in a fresh new environment. Before staff start packing up their desks, however, Milestone president Terry Polyak has his work cut out for him.
Up until Polyak purchased the building from local developers the Perimeter Group, the rundown corner had been a burden on the city – both an eyesore and a source of frequent complaints from local residents. A selfdescribed “sucker for a derelict building,” Polyak describes the project to revitalize the corner as both a labour of love and an exciting opportunity to invest in the downtown core. “Occupying a prime location in downtown Galt gives Milestone an amazing opportunity to really participate in the vibrancy and energy of the core,” said Polyak. “We’re excited to join a wonderful, close-knit downtown community and get involved in all the great things going on in Galt right now.” On top of the charm and character of the building’s 19th-century architecture, Polyak was drawn to the unique atmosphere of downtown Galt, which he says delivers the perfect balance of an accessible urban core and a picturesque small town. The agency joins a number of new and established businesses participating in downtown Galt’s recent revival. Mayor Doug Craig said the city is “thrilled to welcome Milestone to the Galt core,” adding that “Milestone’s investment will breathe new life into a key building that has been vacant for several years.” “Having professionals working and living downtown is part of the city’s strategy for our core areas,” said Craig. The company’s move will help bring new jobs and business to the local area, in conjunction with other developments like the new digital library, Grand River Pedestrian Bridge, East Walkway Improvements and Gaslight District.
While building renovations are already underway, construction is likely to extend into the first half of 2018. Milestone will occupy the upper floor of the building, with lower level tenants to be determined in a later development phase.
