Hundreds of Vaccine Appointments Available for Secondary School Students

Waterloo Region – Hundreds of vaccine appointments are available at Region of Waterloo Public Health clinics for secondary school students who have received a suspension notice.

“Book an appointment at one of our clinics or visit the vaccine bus this week to avoid missing days of school as the result of suspension,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Medical Officer of Health. “We have expanded our clinic capacity to help students get the vaccines they need to stay in school.”

“Appointments are currently available at two locations - 99 Regina Street South in Waterloo and 30 Christopher Drive in Cambridge. Book now while these appointments are still available,” added Dr. Wang. “In addition, the vaccine bus will be visiting a number of rural township locations this week and will accept secondary school students on a walk-in basis, as capacity allows.”

If your high-school-aged child is missing a vaccine:

  • Book an appointment with Public Health at regionofwaterloo.ca/vaccines
    • You do not need a valid Ontario Health Card to get a vaccine from Public Health.
  • Book an appointment with your primary health care provider and upload your record after vaccination at regionofwaterloo.ca/vaccines. Please note that some primary care health providers may not have the Meningococcal ACYW-135  vaccine (Menactra®, Menveo™, Nimenrix®) available at their office.
  • Visit the vaccine bus this week for a walk-in appointment (capacity may be limited):

  • Tuesday, April 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
Wilmot Recreation Complex, 1291 Nafziger Rd, Baden
  • Wednesday, April 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
Ayr Curling Club, 210 Northumberland St, Ayr

  • Thursday, April 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
Woolwich Memorial Complex, 24 Snyders Ave S, Elmira

No further action is required if:

  • You received confirmation from Public Health that your child will not be suspended.
  • You already have an appointment booked with Public Health before May 1, 2024 – please keep your appointment.

If your child has received any of the missing vaccines listed on the Suspension Order, report them online at regionofwaterloo.ca/vaccines.

If Public Health does not receive this information before 4:30 p.m. on April 30th, your child will be suspended from school starting on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Vaccination protects kids and keeps schools healthy by stopping the spread of serious and preventable disease. Children who are not vaccinated are at increased risk of getting infections and spreading diseases to others.

The Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requires all elementary and secondary school students to have proof of these vaccinations or a valid exemption on file with Public Health.
