How to safely enjoy the partial solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21
In the afternoon on Monday, Aug. 21, there will be a solar eclipse visible throughout the region. Though we will not be seeing a total eclipse in Cambridge you should still follow safety measures to protect your eyes. See some tips below to safely enjoy viewing the eclipse.
- Do not look directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection.
- Solar viewing glasses or eclipse glasses are the most common form of eye protection and are safe for use to view the eclipse. Ensure the lenses are intact and discard any that are damaged.
- If using a camera or telescope to view the eclipse, ensure the lenses are fitted with Mylar filters. Do not use this equipment without filters even if you are wearing eclipse glasses.
- Do not use normal sunglasses to view the eclipse. They will not protect your eyes when looking directly at the sun.
Please remember that not taking the proper precautions for viewing the eclipse can damage your eyesight.
