Holiday Guidelines and Schedule for July 1
This year, more than ever, Canada Day should be a time for reflection and remembrance. The City of Cambridge asks all who are celebrating Canada Day to consider learning more about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action. Learn about the TRC Calls to Action: https://bit.ly/35sQkWM
In accordance with public health guidelines, there will be no large gatherings as part of Canada Day celebrations. The City would like to remind those who are celebrating to ensure they continue to follow Step 1 Public Health guidelines, after the Region of Waterloo announced it will not be moving to Step 2 on June 30th with the province. For more details about Canada Day this year, visit www.cambridge.ca/canadaday.
Indoor gatherings with those outside your household are not permitted, apart from individuals who live alone - they may consider gathering exclusively with another household to help reduce the negative impacts of social isolation. Outdoor gatherings are permitted and limited to 10 people (including those not from your household) with physical distancing in place, and masks worn if physical distancing is not possible.
The City also encourages residents to shop local on the holiday weekend. Seasonal, local produce from the Cambridge Farmers’ Market can enhance a picnic or barbeque. Residents can visit Saturday, July 3rd from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shop efficiently to better accommodate capacity limits or order ahead of time online at the market’s online store for faster pickup.
Additionally, public firework displays will not be permitted and public events have once again been cancelled across the region this year. Fireworks cannot be set off in municipal parks, sports fields, laneways, or on school board property. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution with private backyard firework displays to avoid injury and increased strain on emergency resources. The City and Region of Waterloo encourage residents to limit their backyard fireworks displays in order to respect physical distancing protocols. For more information about private fireworks recommendations this year, visit www.waterloo.ca//modules/news/index.aspx?newsId=29b228c4-4c6c-4351-8e06-fdcd5861f4b2&lang=en.
