Hate traffic and congestion? Now the public can help improve commute times!

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is committed to improving daily commute times on our Regional road network.  For the next several months the Region will be collecting traffic congestion data on Regional roads.

With the use of an innovative mobile phone GPS app that has been developed to track traffic slow-downs as you drive, the public can now assist in collecting traffic data on the most congested Regional roads in Waterloo Region.

“We really hope that the public will take a personal interest and participate in helping us identify congestion along their commute routes”, said Bob Henderson, Manager of Transportation Engineering. “The real-time data that will be collected with the “Traffic Tracker” app is valuable to traffic engineers at the Region.  This road data will assist us in prioritizing and focusing in on roads that may need improvements such as changes to traffic signal timing, new turning lanes or roundabouts.”

Interested participants can find out more and will be asked to fill out a quick survey on the Region of Waterloo’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca. Participants who qualify will be sent a link to download the application to their mobile phone.

The data will be collected from May through August 2013 and will provide important information that will aid in the improvement of traffic and congestion on Regional Roads.
