GRT planning transit improvements for City of Cambridge

Waterloo Region – Grand River Transit (GRT) is planning approximately $2 million in service improvements in the City of Cambridge this fall and wants to hear from community members.

“These changes provide direct bus routes to services people in Cambridge need, like grocery stores and employment areas,” said Tom Galloway, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Planning and Works Committee. “The community is growing and access to transit that is quick and efficient is important to current riders, to attracting new riders, and it supports the region’s goal of sustainable transportation and rapid transit.”

A new video highlights the proposed improvements which include more service evenings and on weekends, more direct travel to key destinations such as Cambridge Centre Station, Ainslie Terminal and to grocery stores and employment areas. There will be fewer transfers for riders, but in some areas travel distances to some bus stops may be further in order to provide more direct service overall. These changes will support new travel patterns as the city continues to grow and develop.

Pending Regional Council approval, the proposed improvements would take place in September 2022.

A virtual public consultation session will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the proposed changes and ask questions.

If public health guidelines permit, there are also plans for in person outreach at key Cambridge transit locations.

Public feedback will be collected:

  • Online - grt.ca/Cambridge2022
  • In person - paper copies of the feedback form are available at Ainslie Terminal
  • By phone - 519-585-7555.
