GRT Operator tests positive for COVID-19

Waterloo Region – Grand River Transit (GRT) has been advised that an operator has tested positive for COVID-19.

The operator most recently worked on Sunday, October 4 and tested positive on October 8, 2020. The operator is now self-isolating at home.

GRT has undertaken numerous steps to keep our employees and customers safe, including enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of vehicles, stations and frequently touched surfaces, requiring operators to wear masks in public areas and shared indoor spaces, and installing barriers on buses to protect operators and passengers.

“GRT continues to do everything that is necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our riders and employees,” says Peter Zinck, Director of Transit Services for the Region of Waterloo. “GRT requires riders to wear a mask, stay behind the yellow line and maintain physical distancing between themselves, other passengers and bus operators where possible.”

Residents are reminded that we have community transmission of COVID-19 throughout our region at this time and it’s important to follow public health guidelines:

  • Practice physical distancing between yourself and people outside your social circle
  • Wash your hands often with warm water and soap or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Wear a face covering in enclosed public places and on transit
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay home when you are sick
