Grand River Transit – UNIFOR Local 4304 - On Strike as of 5 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2017
Region of Waterloo – Unifor Local 4304, representing Grand River Transit/MobilityPLUS operators, dispatchers, fleet mechanics and service attendants will be officially on strike as of 5 a.m., Monday April 3, 2017.
Unfortunately, the membership of Unifor Local 4304 did not ratify the terms of a new contract which had been recommended by the Unifor bargaining committee.
Listed below is important information on the services affected during the labour disruption:
- Grand River Transit and Bus Plus Service – No buses will be running in Waterloo Region.
- MobilityPLUS – Every effort will be made to provide transportation for pre-scheduled dialysis trips only. Scheduled trips for work, medical (including clinics), and recreation are cancelled. The TaxiSCRIP program will be available and is not affected by the service disruption. Specialized transit service provided by Kiwanis Transit is not affected.
- Bus Terminals – The Charles and Ainslie St. Terminals are closed. GO Bus and Coach Canada will maintain regular scheduled pick up and drop off service at the GRT bus stops located at Queen and Weber Streets in Kitchener. GO Transit and Coach Canada will maintain regular scheduled pick up and drop off service at GRT bus stops located at Ainslie and Dickson Streets. Bus Operators will be selling tickets and collecting fares. Cash only.
- Greyhound bus service will maintain regular scheduled pick up and drop off service on Gaukel St. in Kitchener. Ticket agents will be selling tickets on site. Credit and debit only.
- GRT Tickets and Passes – GRT tickets have no expiry dates and can be used when service resumes. Please keep them in a safe place. Pending the length of the service disruption, GRT will make special announcements regarding this issue.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time. The Region remains prepared to meet with the Union to get the buses back on the road and to reach a resolution that is fair to employees and regional taxpayers.
Grand River Transit is asking those who depend on transit to plan ahead and find alternative means of transportation.
