Friday’s waste collection delayed in Cambridge and Kitchener
Waterloo Region – Icy and snow covered roads and the high volume of waste delayed waste collection for much of the week, with most collection occurring the next day. Friday’s collection was expected to be completed today, December 31st. With the exception of some small areas, most of Waterloo’s Friday collection area has been completed. Friday’s area in Cambridge and Kitchener has not.
To avoid the collection “cascade” challenges experienced by all citizens in the tri-cities last week, the remaining uncollected Friday areas in Cambridge and Kitchener will not be collected until next Friday, January 6th .
“The decision to delay Friday’s collection until January 6th will prevent a second week of every day being behind, and collection spilling over to the next day”, says Susan White, manager of waste collection and diversion. “With only so many collection vehicles in our fleet, it would be impossible to fully catch up on Monday.”
Citizens with Friday’s uncollected garbage and recycling are asked to bring their materials back in and place them out for regular collection on Friday, January 6th.
We apologize for the inconvenience to citizens, and thank everyone for their patience as crews do their best to get back on track.
