Free smart about salt information session for businesses
KITCHENER, ON – The Region of Waterloo and the Smart About Salt Council are hosting an information session on the smart about salt™ Winter Salt Management Program on Thursday, December 8, 2011.
During the winter months salt is used to help protect parking lots and walkways from icy buildup. Incorrect and excessive salt use can lead to increased repair costs to infrastructure and damage to the environment. When the snow melts, salt can enter our groundwater affecting our drinking water. As part of the implementation of the Clean Water Act, some properties will be required to develop salt management plans to address this concern.
To help address these concerns, the Region of Waterloo is hosting a free smart about salt information session. The smart about salt program promotes best management practices on salt use while maintaining public safety through training and certification. Property owners and managers responsible for the clearing of parking lots and walkways are encouraged to attend this free information session to learn more about the program and the economic and environmental benefits of becoming a smart about salt certified site.
The smart about salt information session will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Holiday Inn in Cambridge. The information session is free but advanced registration is required as seating is limited.
