Free educational event about fentanyl for parents, caregivers, and teachers
The Waterloo Region Integrated Drug Strategy is hosting a 'Fentanyl and Other Drugs' educational event for parents, caregivers and teachers on Tuesday March 21st, 2017 from 6:30p.m. to 9:00p.m. at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy. Registration for this event is online.
Attendees will learn about current concerns about fentanyl in Waterloo Region and the supports and services available, can receive free overdose prevention and naloxone training, will hear from local experts and connect with service providers about substance use and preventing an overdose, and can take home a naloxone kit.
Speakers:
· 7:00 to 7:30: Opening Remarks – Regional Chair Ken Seiling, Dr. Michael Beazely and Dr. Kelly Grindrod (School of Pharmacy)
· 7:30 to 8:00: Christine Padaric (advocate) and Kathy McKenna (Region of Waterloo Public Health)
· 8:00 to 8:30: Trevor Bridge (Ray of Hope Youth Addiction Services)
“This event really is to help equip people,” says Kathy McKenna, Public Health Nurse. “It will give them important knowledge, training, and tools. Being prepared and understanding the facts really can save lives.”
The Waterloo Region Integrated Drug Strategy’s vision is to make Waterloo Region safer and healthier. Its mission is to prevent, reduce or eliminate problematic substance use and its consequences.
